Steamed Apple Puree Recipe

It’s recommended to get certified organic apples because they are among the 2016 EWG’s Dirty Dozen.

  1. Wash 3 organic red delicious apples.
  2. Peel the apples. Peeling them reduces pesticide residue and decreases the risk of tummy upsets.
  3. Core and cut the apples into 1″ chunks.
  4. Add 3 cups of water to the steamer saucepot and place the steam basket into the saucepot.
  5. Cover the steamer and set the temperature to med-high.
  6. Once the water is boiling, put the apple chunks into the steamer basket and cover.
  7. Steam for 8 mins or until tender – Add more water if needed.
  8. Remove the apples from the steamer and place them into Vitamix or blender of your choice.
  9. Add 4 ounces of water from the saucepot (it contains a lot of nutrients) and 2 scoops of formula OR 4 ounces of breast milk. 
  10. Blend until the puree can easily pour out of the blender into the ice cube trays.
  11. Add more water or breast milk if the puree is too thick.
